Follow-up - chelsea managerial search

Chelsea close in on Hiddink

So, it was one of my nominees that chelsea has choosen. Chelsea hope to conclude the deal by saturday. Of course, the relations between Hiddink and Abramovich has a major role to play in it. The former confirmed that he will take on the job temporarily until the end of the season, and that there is no way he is leaving the Russia job. It should be noted that Russia play 2 world cup qualifiers match during this period.

My next prediction is: if chelsea are successful under Hiddink, Abramovich will do all he could, money-wise or relation-wise, to convince Hiddink to stay. Otherwise, the next clear target is Frank Rijkard - the latter had stated that he wont take any job until the start of next season, so this coincides a bit.

Afterall, i think this was all planned by Abramovich: he always wanted Hiddink to coach chelsea and was also aware that the latter is more interested in Russia. so why not bring him on temporarily - this will make Abramovich dream come true! Although for the sake of! lol. And then, at the end of the season, he catches Rijkaard - who is a champions league winner - the main cup chelsea is running after!

let us see where all this brings us to. It is always difficult to start midway and work with the team. Hiddink experience might come into play.. but let us wait and watch how it unveils.. until then keep tuned!

Scolari & Adams Sacked!

Adams 'surprised' at Pompey axe

Despite having the backing of the chairman few days ago, he has now been sacked! Of course, the results have not been good and going from 8th to 16 since tony adams took over is not good too! but with some of the signings of january, i was seeing some change in them. they played well against liverpool and lost in the final 5 mins. even great teams get caught up that way. but well, everything happens for the good. Now, who do you think will be the next portsmouth manager ?

Scolari sacked as Chelsea manager

Chelsea have sensationally sacked manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The club's website revealed the dramatic move had been made "to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for".

World Cup winner Scolari had only been in the job since June 2008, when he became Chelsea's third boss in a year.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League but remain in the Champions League and FA Cup - with Ray Wilkins in charge until a successor is appointed.

"Luiz Felipe Scolari has been dismissed as manager of Chelsea Football Club with immediate effect," read the statement. "The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager.

"Felipe has brought many positives to the club since he joined and we all feel a sense of sadness that our relationship has ended so soon.

Unfortunately the results and performances of the team appeared to be deteriorating at a key time in the season.

"In order to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for we felt the only option was to make the change now.

"The search for a new manager has already started and we hope to have someone in place as soon as possible."

Scolari won the World Cup as manager of his home country, Brazil, in 2002.

He arrived at Chelsea following a six-year spell in charge of Portugal, who he led to the final of Euro 2004 and the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup.

The 60-year-old made an impressive start but results deteriorated and of his 36 games in charge, 20 were won, five lost and 11 drawn.

Chelsea, who were unbeaten in the league at home for 86 matches until Liverpool's 1-0 win in October 2008, have lost two home league matches and drawn on five occasions this season.

Their record against the so-called big four this season is poor - they drew 1-1 at home with Manchester United and lost 3-0 away, were beaten 2-1 at home by Arsenal, and home and away by Liverpool.

Scolari's men were knocked out of the Carling Cup by Burnley on penalties and travel to Watford in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

The FA Cup tie at Vicarage Road is the start of a vital 11 days for Chelsea which includes a trip to Villa Park for the crucial Premier League clash with Aston Villa on 21 February, followed by the visit of Juventus to Stamford Bridge in the Champions League four days later.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has now overseen the departure of four managers since his arrival in 2003.

Claudio Ranieri was sacked in 2004, Jose Mourinho in September 2007 and Grant in May 2008.

A banner unfurled during Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Hull at Stamford Bridge on Saturday called for the return of former Blues favourites Gianfranco Zola, currently in charge at West Ham, and Roberto Di Matteo, the MK Dons boss.

Chelsea were booed off the field at the final whistle and sections of the crowd could be heard chanting "you don't know what you're doing" at Scolari.

Chelsea is a pathetic club in my opinion! you cant run after a trophy like that!! what is remaining to do is say to abramovich is: HERE TAKE IT!

Well, you need to Play football, and if you are good you win trophies. It doesnt happen like magic. OR money cant buy the trophies. there is the hard work of the team and some luck.

Chelsea contributed to the loss of Portugal in the Euro 2008 by announcing the new manager being scolari. portugal was playing well and was favorite to win. Now chelsea says he doesnt want the manager. wtf ? Even avram did a good job, finalist in champion league and 2nd in EPL is not that bad given you lost to Manchester United! Mourinho was the best, with his critics and he was just unlucky to hit Liverpool twice in champions league.

Now, who do you think will be the next manager of chelsea ? Gianfranco Zola is linked to the job as he was an ex chelsea player. Guus hiddick is also linked as he was the first choice manager in the search when avram grant was sacked in june 2008. And lastly, but not least, Avram grant is up for a return to chelsea ? which of these 3 do you think will be the next manager? or do you think of someone else taking the managerial post ?

Everton v Liverpool

FA Cup fourth round replay
Venue: Goodison Park Date: Wednesday, 4 February Kick-off: 2010 GMT

Everton manager David Moyes is likely to name an unchanged side for the FA Cup fourth round replay with Liverpool.

Moyes still has problems in attack as Yakubu, Louis Saha and James Vaughan all remain injured, while deadline day signing Jo is cup-tied.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has no new injury concerns, although full-back Phillip Degen has been ruled out for several weeks with a broken metatarsal.

Benitez could opt to play the same team that beat Chelsea last Sunday.

Everton (from): Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Anichebe, Gosling, Castillo, Rodwell, Neville, Osman, Arteta, Fellaini, Pienaar, Cahill, Nash, Yobo, Van der Meyde, Jacobsen, Jutkiewicz.

Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Hyypia, Aurelio, Dossena, Benayoun, Babel, Gerrard, Mascherano, Lucas, Alonso, Kuyt, Torres, Ngog, Riera, Cavalieri.

BIG-MATCH FACTS

These Merseyside rivals drew 1-1 for the second time in a week when they met in the original tie, directly after the equivalent league fixture. Steven Gerrard was again on target to rescue a replay for the Reds, after Joleon Lescott had given Everton the lead.

This is the most frequently played fixture in FA Cup history. It will be the 22nd time they have met (including replays).

Liverpool have won nine and Everton six of the previous 21 meetings.

They last clashed in the FA Cup in 1991 in a fifth round tie that took three matches to resolve at a time that also saw Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish resign between the first and second matches.

The Toffees are seeking a place in the last 16 for the first time in four years.

The League ladder

Everton are four places below Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Referee

Alan Wiley (Staffordshire)

Next round

The winners will be home to either Doncaster or Aston Villa in the fifth round, scheduled for Sunday, 15 February - Kick Off 1430.

EVERTON

Current form

No win in four.

Not lost at Goodison Park, since Aston Villa eclipsed them by the odd goal in five on 7 December.

Recent FA Cup performance

Qualified for the last 16 once in six years, since reaching the quarter-finals in 2002.

The Manager

Victory away to Macclesfield in the third round was only the fifth FA Cup tie Everton had won in just short of seven years under David Moyes.

FA Cup fact

Joe Royle was at the helm when Everton won the Cup for the fifth and most recent time in 1995. Until Harry Redknapp's notable achievement with Portsmouth last season, Royle had been the most recent English manager to lift the trophy.

LIVERPOOL

Current form

Undefeated in 16; won eight and drawn eight since losing away to Tottenham in the Carling Cup on 12 November - their only loss in 19 league and cup games.

Recent FA Cup performance

Qualified for the fifth round three times in the last five years, and went on to lift the trophy in one of those seasons (2006).

The Manager

Liverpool's victory on penalties over West Ham three years ago won for Rafa Benitez the only major domestic Cup of his managerial career.

FA Cup fact

Won the competition seven times; only Manchester United (11), Arsenal (10) and Tottenham (eight) exceed that.

HEAD to HEAD

All competitions

This is the 211th Merseyside derby. Liverpool are unbeaten in six; they have won three and drawn three since Everton's 3-0 home win on 9 September 2006.

FA Cup

This is the 16th time these Merseyside rivals have been drawn together in the FA Cup, which is a competition record.
